Ipswich Town’s Flynn Downes on Bournemouth’s Radar
Ipswich Midfielder Looking for Fresh Challenge
Toward the end the 2020/21 League One season, Downes was made to train with the U23’s at Ipswich after stating his desire to seek out a fresh challenge. He made just 17 starts for the club due to injury problems and his time in East Anglia now looks likely to be coming to its conclusion.
Bournemouth are now reported to be at the head of the queue for the player although both Peterborough and Barnsley have also been linked with him.
Downes is still under contract for a further two years at Portman Road but the club could now look to cash in amid the mounting interest in their player.
Parker Rebuilding
Scott Parker was in the Premier League last season but left Fulham to join the Cherries, replacing Jonathan Woodgate, and has been tasked with taking the club back to the Premier League. He is hoping to strengthen the squad ahead of the new season.
As for Ipswich boss Paul Cook, he is also making changes to his squad with the club desperate to escape League One and Downes would appear to be out of his plans.
Downes is only 22-years of age and would fit with Parker’s style of play as he is seen as being a cultured player with a wide range of passing and strength on the ball with plenty of potential to improve further with the right manager.
Injury last season was frustrating for Downes and he will be keen to prove, should he move on, that he has the potential that many believe he does possess.
