Memphis Depay has officially completed his move to Barcelona after months of speculation. The now former Lyon man enjoyed an incredible career revival in France, scoring 76 goals and assisting a further 55 in 178 appearances.
The Dutchman doesn’t just perform in club colours, either. He recently scored his first goal of the 2020 European Championships in a 2-0 victory over Austria. The win sent the Dutchmen through to the last 16 and signalled a sigh of relief after they missed out on qualification altogether for the 2016 competition.
Having previously failed on the biggest stage at Manchester United, a more mature and experienced Depay will be desperate to prove his worth at the Camp Nou. As for Barcelona, they’ll be delighted to get the deal over the line, especially on a free. The forward’s contract is set to expire at Lyon, therefore making him a free against and allowing the Catalan club to make their move.

A New and Improved Barcelona Front Three
Going from having Martin Braithwaite as one of the only reliable options going forward to Sergio Aguero and Memphis Depay having spent a grand total of £0 is a piece of genius business from Barcelona. It’s ironic that Barcelona of all clubs have produced such genius. They quickly became known as a club full of transfer flops; the club that had more money than sense.
Philippe Coutinho arrived and failed. Griezmann is yet to showcase his full potential. And the less said about the sale of Luis Suarez, the better. But here they are. Aguero, on a free. Depay, on a free and an attacking trio worthy of winning La Liga once more.
The hope will be that the business done can convince Lionel Messi to stay put and end his career where it all began in Spain.
