Sky Sports News have reported that Sean Dyche and Burnley are looking to sign former Manchester United and England player Ashley Young from Inter Milan on a free transfer with talks said to be progressing between the club and Young’s representatives.
Burnley in Talks to Bring Ashley Young in From Inter Milan
12 Month Deal Being Discussed
Talks are taking place for the recent Serie A title winner to move back to the Premier League on a 12 month contract with the potential to extend this by a further year depending on performances.
Young is well known to Burnley manager Sean Dyche as he was captain at Watford when he started to make his breakthrough into the first team at Vicarage Road. Young is said to hold Dyche in high esteem from those days playing together. Watford themselves have also been said to be keen on bringing Young ‘home’ but Burnley are currently in pole position for his signature.
Young has been offered a new contract at the San Siro but has decided he wants to have one last attempt at playing in the Premier League.
Experience Key
The addition of Young to the Burnley squad would add experience and leadership as well as versatility. He can play at left back, left wing or on the right hand side so he can cover a number of positions which will appeal to a club on restricted finances such as Burnley. These are also areas that Burnley have struggled to have cover for in recent seasons.
For Inter, Young mainly played in the left wing back position and played 34 times for Inter in the 2020/21 title winning season, meaning that, despite being 35 years of age, he is still fit and fresh with plenty to offer at the very highest level.
Young joined Inter in 2020 and has impressed in his time at the San Siro.
