According to Fabrizio Romano, several clubs are interested in Lille defender Sven Botman. The 21-year-old played a huge part in Lille’s shock title win last season, which saw them dethrone Paris Saint-Germain. It comes as no surprise to see the young defender attract plenty of interest. Botman ticks every box possible.
He is young, has a league title under his belt, and is dominant in the air at 6’4. Whether you’re a Premier League club or another club in Europe, Botman is likely on the shortlist of targets. The Dutchman could yet surprise us all, however, with Atalanta seeking to land their ‘dream move’.
Sven Botman Attracting Interest Around Europe
Previous Liverpool Interest
If you cast your minds back to January when Liverpool were starved of defensive options, the Reds were constantly linked with Sven Botman. In the end, they opted for a move for similarly young defender Ozan Kabak in a loan move. Now with Ibrahima Konate, Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool are unlikely to pursue the Lille defender.
That leaves the door open for the aforementioned Atalanta or perhaps other European clubs. Botman will have to ask himself, is Atalanta a step up from Lille? As a young defender, the Dutchman will be desperate to ensure that the only way is up. He’ll want to add to his Ligue 1 title with other major honours.
Most Suitable Clubs
Finding a suitable club for Sven Botman shouldn’t be difficult. Again, he ticks every box possible when it comes to young defenders. The price could become an issue, however. Lille are yet to set a price, but a player so reputable at such a young age will not come cheap.
One thing that is for sure is that, whoever does end up with Botman, they’ll have themselves a top defender for both the present and the future.
