Barcelona have agreed an astonishing ten-year deal with Lionel Messi, according to Franceso Porzio. Barcelona are in reported financial troubles but this has not stopped them from doing everything to keep hold of their prized asset.

Lionel Messi and Barcelona Agree Ten-Year Deal

Playing and Ambassador Contract

Talks have been ongoing between Barcelona and Messi for some time and now a bumper deal has been agreed with a number of caveats included along the way.

Messi is now 33 and is looking forward to playing with Argentine teammate Sergio Aguero, who has signed from Manchester City, and will remain part of the Barcelona squad for another two seasons before heading off to the USA to play for David Beckham-owned Inter Miami. Miami manager Phil Neville will surely not have been expecting to manage one of the world’s greatest footballers in his career.

From Desire to Leave to Huge Deal to Stay

Last season saw clubs falling over each other to try and sign Messi when he said that he wanted to leave the Catalan club but Barcelona wanted an eye-watering £625 million for him. Club president Joan Laporta has made it his mission since returning to the club to ensure that Messi remains with them.

The new contract runs from 2021 to 2031 with Messi earning a weekly wage of £584,000.

Ambassador Messi

The remaining six years of the contract will see Messi act as an ambassador for the football club, a role that could really increase Barcelona’s already immense reputation around the world. Football fans everywhere can be assured they can look forward to seeing more of Messi in the years to come and in the next two seasons he could produce an exciting partnership with Aguero, which defences in La Liga will hardly be relishing.
