Chairman Michael Eisner Thrilled to Keep the Cowley Brothers
The Cowley brothers arrived in March with Portsmouth sat in tenth place after an inconsistent season under Kenny Jackett. Their reign began with four straight victories but a major dip in form towards the end of the season costing Pompey a play-off spot.
Portsmouth finished the season with just two wins from their final eight matches. They were sat in the play-offs heading into the final round of matches but lost to Accrington Stanley. That defeat meant Portsmouth finished eighth, missing out on the play-offs by two points and condemning them to yet another season in League One.
Despite that disappointing end to the season, the Portsmouth hierarchy have been impressed with the Cowley brothers’ commitment and improved style of football.
Speaking to the Portsmouth website, chairman Michael Eisner said: “ We are thrilled to continue with the Cowley brothers leading our team on the pitch.
“Their dedication and hard work, plus their exciting style of play, makes them a perfect match for Portsmouth and our fans. And I thank them for coming in on such short notice to help us this season.”
The Cowley Brothers Are Determined to Bring Success
Danny and Nicky Cowley know all about promotion and how to win it. They built something special at Lincoln City, winning promotion from non-league into League One as well as a memorable cup run which saw them beat Premier League Burnley before eventually losing to Arsenal.
The brothers departed Lincoln for Huddersfield Town in 2019 but they left after less than a year in charge. They have certainly made a positive impression during their short term at Portsmouth so far and they will be determined to get Portsmouth back in the Championship.
Speaking after signing their new deals, the brothers said: “It has been one of the greatest privileges of our lives to be associated with this club.
“In the short time that we have been here, we have seen the love and passion that the people of Portsmouth have for this football club.
“With the support of Michael and the board of directors we will create a team that you can be proud of.
“We will work relentlessly to create a high-performance environment for the players, and consequently the club, to enjoy consistent success.
“Our ambition is to develop players and staff on a daily basis, while playing fast, attacking – and, most importantly, winning – football.
“For this club, today is about new beginnings. While we will always take learnings from the past, we are absolutely determined to live in the moment and enjoy the challenges that this journey will bring.
“One thing is for sure – we cannot do this alone. It is your support that defines us as a football club and we will need you beside us every step of the way!”
