AC Milan Meet with Agents of Coveted Feyenoord Midfielder

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, AC Milan met with the agents of coveted Feyenoord midfielder Orkun Kökçü. The meeting took place at Casa Milan, already showing Milan’s seriousness in a potential deal.

Fabrizio Romano reported the same.

Kökçü fits well with Milan’s current youthful crop of talent and can add strong depth to the midfield.

Milan’s Current Midfield Options

Milan’s midfielders include Ismael Bennacer, Franck Kessie, Sandro Tonali, Soualiho Meïté, and Rade Krunic.

Bennacer and Kessie are the de-facto starters. This will not change, as least for next season. Tonali is one of the most promising young Italian midfielders, also making him virtually untouchable for the squad.

Meïté is on loan from Torino, and so far has not been overly convincing. He’s a decent option solely for depth but isn’t much of a game-changer. Milan may move on.

Krunic is better than most may think. He can be deployed in the centre of the field, or as an attacking midfielder. He’s even been used on the wing, with little effect, but he’s more than willing to be versatile for his team. He rarely complains about game time as well, making him a useful option to have.

Should Milan make a move for Kökçü, it will likely be to replace Meïté.

A Look Into Orkun Kökçü

Kökçü is only 20-years-old, giving him plenty of time to develop. He’s already quite talented, however, as he’s a mainstay in Feyenoord’s lineup. Feyenoord aren’t having their best season, fifth in the Eredivisie, but Kökçü is a rising talent nonetheless.

He’s also versatile. His preferred position is as a central midfielder, but he can be deployed as an attacking midfielder as well.

The potential move would allow him to back up his fellow Turkish countryman Hakan Calhanoglu.

This season the Feyenoord youngster has three goals and two assists to his name in all competitions. These numbers aren’t particularly outstanding, but he’s young and midfielders don’t always rack up statistics. His playing style and knowledge of the game are already high, and will only be developed at Milan.

Another argument for Kökcü coming to Italy is that his current coach is former Milan legend, Jaap Stam. There’s no evidence that Stam will be more willing to speak to Milan, but there’s certainly a possibility there.

According to Calcio Mercato, Milan will face competition with Roma in Italy for Kökcü’s signature.
