Gameweek 34 Fantasy Premier League Captaincy: The Options

Kelechi Iheanacho

  • Goals: 10
  • Assists: 1
  • FPL Points: 88
  • FPL points in the last five matches: 50
  • Price: £6.2
  • Opponents: Southampton (away)
Kelechi Iheanacho’s red hot form continued last week with a 12 point haul against Crystal Palace. With nine goals in the last seven matches in the Premier League, the Nigerian should be a very strong contender for the armband this week.
Iheanacho also scored against this week’s opponents Southampton in the FA Cup. Besides, the Saints have conceded four goals in their last two home games. Leicester City could take a massive step towards confirming a spot in next season’s Champions League with a victory in this game. On current form, they should make it and Iheanacho’s goals have helped.

Harry Kane

  • Goals: 21
  • Assists: 13
  • FPL Points: 218
  • FPL points in the last five matches: 36
  • Price: £11.8
  • Opponents: Sheffield United (home)
Harry Kane at home against the bottom club in the league seems like a no-brainer for the captaincy decision. Kane has been spectacular this season and was in great form before his recent injury.
However, his rather rapid return from said injury has raised some concerns. He played the whole game against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final, which seems promising. It is likely that Kane will start this Sunday. The Blades have already been relegated but they are unlikely to make things easy for Spurs. Regardless, Kane is probably the best bet for the armband this week.

Jamie Vardy

  • Goals: 13
  • Assists: 13
  • FPL Points: 163
  • FPL points in the last five matches: 29
  • Price: £10.3
  • Opponents: Southampton (away)
Jamie Vardy has only scored once in the last nine matches in the Premier League. Probably for the first time since the departure of Riyad Mahrez, Leicester City do not seem to rely on him alone to score the goals. However, Vardy must be itching to score some goals himself and not let Iheanacho have all the fun.
Vardy looked quite sharp against Crystal Palace and was rather unlucky not to score. He has happy memories of St. Mary’s Stadium as he scored a hat-trick there last season in that famous 9-0 victory for the Foxes. Could Vardy come back into the limelight in this game? Those looking for a differential could consider him.

On current form, one has to consider Kelechi Iheanacho very strongly indeed. However, Kane has the fixture going for him. Deciding between the two is tough but probably Kane’s fitness issues provide Iheanacho with a slight advantage.
