Former Leicester City fullback Danny Simpson is set to complete a move to Bristol City, according to Mike McGrath of the Daily Telegraph. The fullback will reportedly sign a short-term deal having undergone a successful medical. He’ll join up with former Leicester manager Nigel Pearson.
Simpson, himself, is set for an important end to the Championship season with Bristol City. Pearson, too, should the move go through, will be glad to have his former player.
Simpson Set for Bristol City Move
Premier League Winner
Having joined Bristol City just under a month ago, Nigel Pearson has already secured himself a Premier League winner in Danny Simpson. He’ll know just how good he is, too, having managed him in Leicester’s great escape a season before their famous title win. Even at 34, Simpson will be set for some first-team action at Bristol for the remainder of the season.
His experience could prove key. As it stands, Bristol are languishing in the mediocracy of mid-table with not too much to aim for. A good run could see them pull off the shock of the season by making up the 12 point gap between themselves and the play-offs. If they were to go on that run, they’d need the guidance of a player of Simpson’s calibre.
It looks, unlikely, however when looking at the table. Pearson will not need to worry about a relegation scrap, with his side ten points clear. At the same time, though, The Robins are 12 points away from any form of excitement towards the closing stages of the season.
Simpson, if the deal is agreed as reported, will be set for a quiet, but helpful time at Bristol, where he can get some crucial minutes in his ageing legs. Reportedly joining after the international break, Simpson should slot straight into the side.
