Quick Tips
With teams having to play three matches in a week, rotation and injuries are inevitable. The importance of the bench was really evident last gameweek as Pep Guardiola benched many players whereas Liverpool and Arsenal lost key players to late injuries. The Chelsea lineup also had lots of changes. The most transferred in players for gameweek 21 all failed. So, having patience is also absolutely crucial.
The most transferred in players for GW21:
1️⃣ Calvert-Lewin (925,888) – 2 points
2️⃣ Gundogan (687,138) – 3 points
3️⃣ Cancelo (558,762) – 0 points
4️⃣ Watkins (354,725) – 2 points
5️⃣ Sterling (261,966) – 0 points#FPL pic.twitter.com/Rm8cfcOdzV— Fantasy Premier League (@OfficialFPL) February 1, 2021
Goalkeepers
Emiliano Martínez kept his tenth clean sheet on Saturday. The Argentine remains the best long-term goalkeeper pick. Aaron Ramsdale has a decent chance of a clean sheet as well.
Defenders
Manchester City have now kept five clean sheets in a row. João Cancelo and John Stones were rested in the last game. Will Pep Guardiola rest Rúben Dias this midweek? A clean sheet is likely for City especially with injuries to Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes. The clarets surrendered quite meekly against Chelsea on Sunday and they may struggle once again on Wednesday.
Defenders from Sheffield United could do well this week. However, it is perhaps too much of a risk to have faith in them.
Jamal Lewis is one to consider from Newcastle United. However, Crystal Palace have some tricky players in their ranks so a clean sheet is anything but guaranteed.
As a cheap option, Rob Holding is a decent shout from Arsenal. The Gunners have kept five clean sheets in their last six matches.
For those with a lot of units in hand, Andrew Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold could be considered. They have a great chance to keep a clean sheet especially since their opponents, Brighton & Hove Albion struggle to score goals.
Midfielders
Manchester City travel to Burnley this Wednesday. Pep Guardiola rested Raheem Sterling in the last game so he should start this one. The Clarets have a terrible record in this fixture. Manchester City have scored 28 goals in the last seven matches in all competitions against them. So, FPL managers will be hoping for big points from this fixture. However, Guardiola’s rotation policy as always will keep them very worried indeed. Bernardo Silva, Ilkay Gündogan and Phil Foden are all probable rotation candidates.
Mohamed Salah returned to scoring goals with a brilliant brace in the last game. With Sadio Mane possibly missing out once again, Jürgen Klopp might have to continue starting Salah. Brighton & Hove Albion are no pushovers though and they drew with the defending champions earlier in the season.
Despite their poor position in the table, Fulham have been very tough to play against. Leicester City will look to bounce back after a poor performance at home but they continue to miss their talisman, Jamie Vardy. The Foxes will hope James Maddison, Harvey Barnes and Youri Tielemans can perform better at Craven Cottage as they look to maintain their top-four status. Fulham beat Leicester earlier in the season so this could be a very interesting game indeed.
Bruno Fernandes has failed to score in his last five matches in the premier league. Southampton have lost the last three matches and have only won once in five fixtures in the premier league. This could be a very interesting match. Earlier in the season, United came back to win 3-2 at St.Mary’s.
In-form Arsenal travel to a Wolverhampton Wanderers side that has failed to win any of their last six matches in the Premier League. Arsenal fans will hope Bukayo Saka can return to the starting lineup after missing out on Saturday.
Jack Grealish has scored consistent points throughout the season. He has a tough game this week but can still do well.
Strikers
Patrick Bamford returned to scoring form on Sunday after a barren run of four matches without a goal. It was a scintillating display by Leeds United away to Leicester City. However, can he perform two weeks in a row? Dominic Calvert-Lewin has not scored for a long time and had yet another disappointing display on Saturday. Can he get back to his early-season form as Everton travel to Leeds United?
Gabriel Jesus scored and was quite good against Sheffield United on Saturday. The Brazilian could be worth considering if one has a Manchester City slot in hand.
Callum Wilson produced a brilliant display and scored twice against Everton. Newcastle United will hope he can continue scoring as they look to do the double over Crystal Palace. Wilson scored at Selhurst Park earlier in the season as well.
Michail Antonio and Ollie Watkins will face off in a match that could produce a few goals. West Ham United’s great run of four wins in a row came to an end against Liverpool. They beat Villa earlier in the season but this seems to be a very close match to call.
Alexandre Lacazette is in good form and should be considered as well. However, his fitness remains a concern.
