Facundo Pellistri is set to join Deportivo Alavés on loan after beating fellow La Liga side Celta Vigo and Club Brugge to the youngster’s signature.
United Prospect Pellistri Set For Switch to Spain to Help His Development
Loan Move for Manchester United Youngster Facundo Pellistri
According to Manchester United journalist Jonathan Shrager, the deal should be finalised on Friday, January 39.
Pellistri has not made an appearance for Manchester United since he moved to Old Trafford for a fee of around €10 million in October from Uruguayan side Peñarol. United will be keen for the 19-year-old to play regular first-team football in order to aid his development.
Although loaning him out to a Championship club was a possibility, the Red Devils see Spain as a more suitable destination. Pellistri would be more comfortable on loan in La Liga, where he can speak his mother tongue and ease into a style of football that is less physically demanding than the Championship.
United feel that loaning him out would be their best option after figures at the club deemed him to have surpassed the level of the U23 squad, demonstrating a readiness for first-team action at just 19 years of age.
Pellistri in La Liga
The diminutive winger could play a key role in Álava, with his new team languishing in 18th place in La Liga, having played two more games than 19th placed Elche.
The Basque Country outfit have been winless since Christmas but they will be hoping the capture of a highly-rated Manchester United youngster will coincide with an upturn in fortunes as they look to stave off the threat of relegation.
They face Getafe and Real Valladolid before tough away fixtures against Barcelona and Real Sociedad respectively.
