Sunderland Target Hibernian’s Josh Doig This Month
Lee Johnson Keen to Sign Left-Back
With regular left-back Denver Hume likely to be out of action until at least March, Lee Johnson is keen to add to his options in this area. Callum McFadzean and Dion Sanderson have filled in of late but Johnson is interested in signing another who is a natural in the position if at all possible this month.
Doig appears to be a target for Johnson this month with reports suggesting that he has watched the youngster closely. Hibernian are under no pressure to sell the player who still has two years left on his current contract. However, they could find it difficult to hang on to the Scotland youth international as interest begins to grow for a player tipped to have a bright future in the game.
Speaking earlier in the transfer window, Johnson said this on signing another left-back: “I think we have to consider it, absolutely.
”We have a good left-back [McFadzean] and a couple who can play there but there are so many games, so it has to be a consideration for us. Either that or we have to find one from within our ranks, and I can’t see one there at the moment who is ready to play all the games that we need to at the level that we need to.”
