Manchester City defender Eric Garcia is set to join Barcelona this summer on a free deal. The news follows the expiration of the defender’s contract in the summer, which, therefore, allows him to make a move as a free agent.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the deal is done for June 2021 and was also confirmed by club sources today at Barcelona. Garcia, who originally swapped Spain for Manchester, looks almost certain to go the other way this summer.
Garcia to Complete Barcelona Move
Barcelona Planning for the Future on Limited Budget
With Lionel Messi still yet to agree a new deal at Barcelona, the Argentine looks set to leave the La Liga side on a free deal this summer- leaving the Catalan club struggling to find a replacement.
Losing the best player in the club’s history is a difficult concept to deal with, but losing him for free will be a catastrophe for everyone at the Nou Camp. As things stand, however, that is exactly what’s going to happen.
And on a limited budget, those at Barcelona will hope to identify players available on a free deal- with Garcia already reportedly agreed.
Garcia should bring a refreshing addition of youth to the Barcelona defence- which is currently clustered with ageing defenders such as Gerard Pique.
John Stones’ Revival Makes Garcia Surplus to Requirements
At the start of the season, with Garcia’s contract set to expire, those at Manchester City would have been worried. Aymeric Laporte has consistent injury concerns, whilst others looked unreliable.
So, with that said, the need to tie Garcia down became apparent. With six months left on the defender’s contract, however, he looks set to depart with the defensive worries eased thanks to the resurgence of John Stones and the impact of new man Ruben Dias.
