Frustrating Spell at West Ham for Sébastien Haller

Sébastien Haller has never really managed to settle down at West Ham. Signed from Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer of 2019 in a £45 million transfer, Haller has struggled to win over the Hammers fans. He has started just ten games in the current campaign. This is despite the injury issues surrounding Michail Antonio, the clubs’ first-choice striker.

Haller has scored just 14 times in 54 appearances for the Hammers. He started last season as the main man but eventually lost his place to Antonio. Haller has since found himself to be the backup to Antonio this season. Despite some flashes of brilliance here and there, the Ivorian’s departure will probably be welcomed by most West Ham fans, providing they can get a decent backup striker in.

Possible Replacements for Haller

David Moyes will surely want to sign a replacement before allowing Haller to leave London Stadium. West Ham United currently do not have any backup to Antonio other than the Ivorian.

Bournemouth striker Joshua King could be an option. The Norwegian striker is out of contract in the summer so the Cherries will likely want to cash in on him now. However, King is attracting interest from Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Bromwich Albion. A shock return of Marko Arnautović has also been rumoured.

A Reunion at Amsterdam

Sébastien Haller was prolific in the Eredivisie. He scored 51 times in 98 appearances for FC Utrecht under current Ajax manager, Erik ten Hag. The Dutch manager will hope that Haller can recreate that form and help Ajax’s push for the Eredivisie title. Ajax have been looking for a new striker since the last transfer window as well. So, it looks like a good deal for all parties involved even though West Ham will be making a loss on Haller.
