REPORT: Everton Winger Bernard Linked With a Move to AS Roma

Everton winger Bernard has been linked with a move to Italian Giants AS Roma this January. Reports suggest that the Brazilian could move to the eternal city in a swap deal with Robin Olsen in the January transfer window.

Everton Winger Bernard Linked With AS Roma Move

Lack of Game Time an Issue for Bernard

The Brazilian has struggled for consistent game time at Goodison Park the last few months. In fact, Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti has only started Bernard once in the last eight matches. The arrival of James Rodríguez has pushed Bernard down the pecking order at the start of the season. However, even when the Colombian was injured, other players were preferred.

Swap Deal Mooted With Robin Olsen

Bernard’s agent, Adriano Spadotto, has hinted that the 28-year-old could join AS Roma this January.

When asked about the move, he told LaRoma24: “I’ve talked about it several times, but only with Paulo Fonseca.”

When asked whether a swap deal with Robin Olsen, who joined the Premier League side on loan in the summer, could be on the cards, Spadotto confirmed the possibility.

Win-Win for Both Everton and Roma

Carlo Ancelotti confirmed recently that Everton were looking to make the loan move for Robin Olsen permanent. The Swedish keeper has proven to be an able backup to Jordan Pickford in goal, so far. He has made three appearances so far, including the Carabao Cup quarter-final defeat against Manchester United. Ancelotti has opted to rest Pickford in the Premier League for Olsen on two occasions as well.

On the other hand, Roma are looking for an option in the attacking third. Besides, Bernard played for Roma manager Paulo Fonseca at Shakhtar Donetsk. A reunion could be on the cards. Theoretically, this move really seems to tick all the boxes. However, only time will tell whether the deal goes ahead or not as it is still in the primary stages.
