Bosnia and Herzegovina international Sead Kolasinac has agreed a deal to leave Arsenal on loan. The 27-year-old had been linked with a move to Germany in the summer but saw the transfer fall through because of personal terms. Now, though, Kolasinac will join Schalke on a loan deal that will last until the end of the season.
Sead Kolasinac to Rejoin Schalke on loan
Kolasinac Returns to Schalke
Arsenal full-back Sead Kolasinac has sealed a move that sees him return to Germany. The 27-year old joined Arsenal in 2017 on a free transfer from Schalke. Despite an impressive start, the Bosnia and Herzegovina international failed to build upon his promising performances.
Kolasinac will join Die Knappen on loan for the remainder of the season. The deal will see Arsenal paying a portion of Kolasinac’s wages. The defender, whose contract expires at the end of this season, will be joining the German side without any loan obligations.
Kolasinac started his football career at Schalke after coming through their famed youth system in 2012. The full-back made 123 appearances and scored four goals in five seasons for the Bundesliga outfit.
Arsenal Clearing Deadwood
A major overhaul has been the order of the day at the Emirates for quite some time now. The presence of Arsene Wenger had been one of the reasons why the flaw was not noticed. But, following the departure of the legendary manager, the issues have finally fallen into the limelight. The high wages of several of their non-playing and underperforming players have led to poor finances for the Gunners.
Mikel Arteta spoke about the need to trim the squad during his press conference ahead of the Gunners’ match against West Bromwich Albion. He said: “We’ve had some conversations around a few players & whether we can find some loans because the numbers we have in the squad at the moment are really big. Again, we cannot confirm anything yet. We are looking to do that [trim the squad] and then we will see if we have the right opportunities in the positions that we need some more help.”
The idea to loan out Sead Kolasinac, who has made just one appearance in the league this season, appears to be a step in the right direction.
With Arteta looking to trim the squad, Kolasinac is unlikely to be the last one shown the exit door at the Emirates, with plenty more players struggling to perform.
