Injury to Villarreal’s Vicente Iborra Triggered Move for Watford Midfielder
Villarreal’s interest in Capoue was triggered after an injury to their midfielder Vicente Iborra was confirmed as being serious enough to rule him out of the remainder of the La Liga season.
Capoue Transfer Request
Capoue had handed in a transfer request to Watford which was confirmed by the Hornets in September after the club had been relegated from the Premier League. Capoue has two years left on his current contract but is keen to move onto pastures new. The 32-year-old midfielder, who has played for Toulouse and Tottenham, has played seven games this season in the Championship for Watford, including the Boxing Day victory over Norwich City.
Relegation Heartbreak
Watford’s relegation to the Championship hurt Capoue as he watched on in the final day defeat to Arsenal
He told the Hertfordshire Mercury: “I was really sad for myself, the club and for everybody. We have been working so hard for five years to establish ourselves.
“It was so painful, the last game was so painful. I tried to come back and force myself to do it but I couldn’t.“
