Sterling Among Large Group of City Players Set to Stay
The England international is not the only Manchester City player looking likely to extend their stays at the Etihad.
Midfielder Kevin De Bruyne was, earlier this week, reported to be close to extending his stay with the club. In addition, John Stones’ complete turnaround in fortunes looks to have earned him a new deal with Pep Guardiola’s side.
Twenty-six-year-old Sterling hasn’t had his most productive season in front of goal so far, finding the net eight times in all competitions. However, his importance to the City team in terms of his previous output and the dangerous qualities he brings to the attacking line cannot be questioned.
As well as his eight goals, he has provided five assists for his teammates and has played the full 90 minutes in City’s last four Premier League matches. The trust that Pep Guardiola has in Sterling is undoubted given the number of minutes he has on the pitch.
Given that discussions are yet to start and that this is very much still in the planning phase, there is no indication of how much money this new contract would see Sterling make.
According to the Telegraph, the deal he signed in November 2018 sees him earn around £300,000 per week, so any new deal would have to see a significant rise in that number.
