Quick Tips

With Gameweek 16 starting on Monday, there is hardly any time to rest and recuperate for the players. Rotation is inevitable, so the need to have back-ups on your bench is absolutely vital. In addition, managers have to plan for the upcoming Blank and Double Gameweeks as well.

Goalkeepers

Emiliano Martínez kept yet another clean sheet last gameweek. The Argentine really has done well this season. If you have him, there is no need to even think about this position. However, this week’s fixture might be tricky as Crystal Palace will look to fight back from their 7-0 humiliation last week.  Aston Villa will have to play very well to win this match.

Lukasz Fabianski, Alex McCarthy, Alisson and Ederson should do well this week too.

Defenders

The injuries to Ben Chilwell, Reece James and Tariq Lamptey have really hampered the plans of FPL managers at this crucial juncture of the season. All three of them are likely to miss Gameweek 15. With Gameweek 16 coming just two days later, it is hard to see them recovering for that as well. It might be a good idea to use the free transfer to change one of those three.

Traditionally, Boxing Day fixtures produce a lot of goals. This year things are a lot different, though, without fans present and players are bound to be tired after playing so much football in this condensed season.

Manchester City and Liverpool defenders seem to be the best bets this week. They are playing against highly defensive teams and a clean sheet is definitely possible with good attacking potential as well. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson are doing well although their high prices might make it difficult for FPL managers to get them. City defenders are all rotation risks although Rúben Dias has started every Premier League match for them so far. Benjamin Mendy could be worth a punt after sitting out the League Cup quarter-final. With so many options, it is near impossible to predict the Manchester City lineup.

West Ham United defenders could also do well against struggling Brighton & Hove Albion. Scoring goals has become a huge problem for Graham Potter’s side. So, the likes of Aaron Cresswell and Vladimir Coufal should be considered.

Midfielders

Liverpool and Manchester City players are a must. They have the best fixtures this week. In a way, it is a shame that both these teams have such great fixtures on the same week. Captaining Mohamed Salah at home is always a good idea. Against a struggling  West Bromwich Albion it is a no-brainer really. Sadio Mané should also do well. He was really unhappy to be taken off last week so might have a higher urgency to perform this week. Liverpool are in sensational form as well.

Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling both did not feature in the midweek game so should both start. Manchester City have a fantastic record against  Newcastle United at the Etihad in recent years. They have scored 16 goals in the last four Premier League matches against the Magpies on home soil. Will there be another goal-fest this week?

Chelsea midfielders might make Arsenal suffer even more this week. Mason Mount is the safest pick whereas Christian Pulisic has the potential to go big. The American’s injury issues make him a risky pick though.

James Ward-Prowse, Jarrod Bowen, Raphinha Riyad Mahrez, Theo Walcott and Wilfried Zaha could also do well this week.

Strikers

Sergio Agüero scored an unbelievable five goals in this fixture in 2015. Will he start this week though?

Leeds UnitedBurnley could be a very interesting match. The relentless attacking of Leeds makes Patrick Bamford a great pick any week. However, they have let in the most goals so far this season as well. In fact, defending set-pieces has been a worry for them which makes Burnley attackers really enticing. Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes both scored last week as Burnley seem to be getting back to their best.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has not scored in the last three matches. He has provided an assist in each of those games but as a goal scorer, he must be itching to get back on the scoring sheet. Rock bottom Sheffield United should provide a good opportunity for him to do just that.

Tammy Abraham scored the winner in this fixture last season. With a brace in the last game, he should get a start this week. Arsenal‘s defence looks very shaky and if they are not on their game, Chelsea forwards will shine. Will Timo Werner‘s struggles in front of goal end this week?

Che Adams is also worth considering this week.
