REPORT: Bayern Munich Best Positioned to Sign Dayot Upamecano

Bayern Upamecano

Following earlier speculation, according to The Athletic, it is Bayern Munich who are best positioned to secure the signing of RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano

Previous reports suggested that the German champions would face competition from Manchester United for the defender’s signature. According to The Athletic, however, the Leipzig man is no longer a primary target at Old Trafford- leaving Bayern as the favourites for the signature of Upamecano.

Upamecano Transfer a Classic Bayern Munich Move

Should they complete a deal for Upamecano in the summer, the transfer will be hailed as yet another masterstroke from Bayern Munich. It would keep the transfer trend at the Allianz Arena going, too, in which many Bundesliga stars make the move to the German giants.

We saw it with Mats Hummels in the past; Mario Gotze, too. Now, we could see Upamecano follow the same trend in Germany with the only difference being that he plays for Leipzig and not Borussia Dortmund.

It is a transfer strategy which has ensured years of dominance in the Bundesliga as players put into practice the classic saying of, ‘if you can’t beat them, join them’.

Mistake by Manchester United

If the reports are to be believed, then, it must be said that Manchester United are making a costly mistake. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements- something Upamecano would undoubtedly provide.

Yet, despite their defensive struggles, according to The Athletic, signing Upamecano is no longer a priority this summer. It is a decision those at Old Trafford will end up regretting with Bayern Munich now in pole position for his signature.

As for Upamecano, if reports are to be believed, he’ll be following in the footsteps of many stars before him who made the similar switch to the German champions.
