Lehmann Questions the Character of the Current Squad
Lehmann Says Poor Start Is ‘Not Acceptable’
Arsenal have had a forgetful start to their domestic season. The Gunners have picked up just 13 points from their 11 Premier League matches, making it their worst-ever start to their domestic campaign since the 1981-82 season. The poor run has seen Arsenal languishing 15th in the table, twelve points behind league leaders and arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
Lehmann who was very vocal about voicing his concerns over the start told the Daily Mail: “The position right now is the worst in decades.
“For a club like Arsenal that is not acceptable. All of us old players would try to help and make the Arsenal brand strong and big.
“We are very disappointed because the brand name is deteriorating, and you simply cannot let that happen.
Despite the poor start, the Arsenal legend did not point his fingers solely at under-fire manager Mikel Arteta.
He said: “Well it is a bit of a mixture. The board has to make the right decisions, the manager has to make the right decisions by signing players and coaching them.
“The players are in a fantastic environment, they are in London at one of the most traditional clubs.
“It seems that some of them are still having problems to cope with the pressure because everybody expects them to win something.
“But we are not even talking about winning anymore when you speak of Arsenal. There are a lot of problems.”
Crucial Holiday Fixtures for Arsenal
The busy December period is now officially starting following the end of the group stages in Europe. The next three weeks would see teams playing almost seven matches with an average of a game per three days. Arsenal, who start their busy schedule with a home game against Burnley, can get back on track if they have a good run of form.
But, things can go sideways for the Gunners with just six points separating them from the relegation zone. With league fixtures against Burnley, Southampton, Everton, Chelsea, Brighton & Hove Albion, West Ham United and League Cup fixture against Manchester City coming up, Arsenal can either get their season on track or maybe have their season go completely sideways.
