Wycombe Wanderers have signed former Chelsea youngster James Clark until the end of the season.

The 19-year old arrives at Adams Park following a successful trial with the Championship club and featured in a recent practice match against Bournemouth.

Clark’s Journey: Academy Rejection to the Championship

Clark, a versatile fullback who can play in both left and right-back positions, started his academy career aged nine with Queen’s Park Rangers but was released a few years later.

After being picked up by Brentford at the age of 12, Clark was converted from central midfield to defence before once again suffering the disappointment of being released.

However, he wasn’t out of football for long, catching the eye of Chelsea’s scouts whilst playing for local side Leatherhead. Clark went on to make 23 appearances for the Blues’ U18s before being released earlier this summer without making a senior appearance.

Tough Start to Championship Life for Newly Promoted Wycombe

After beating Oxford United in the League One playoffs to secure promotion in July, Wycombe have struggled to adjust to life in the Championship.

The Choirboys lost their opening seven matches of the season, conceding 15 goals and scoring just two.

However, after drawing against Watford in October to pick up their first point of the season, Wycombe are unbeaten in five matches. Following a run of three draws and two wins, the Choirboys sit three points from safety in 22nd position.

Wycombe will be hoping to continue their good form on Saturday when they take on fellow strugglers Derby County at the iPro Stadium.
