REPORT: Joe Gomez Suffers Injury During England Training

Gomez injury

Following the news of Trent Alexander-Arnold’s injury, reportedly leaving him sidelined for four weeks, Liverpool were set to head into their game against Leicester City with just two of the four of their recognised defensive backline. Fast forward a couple of days, however, and that number will reportedly rise to three with Joe Gomez suffering an injury during England training, according to Paul Joyce of The Times.

The news comes at the worst possible of times for The Reds, who will already be without Virgil van Dijk for the season, Alexander-Arnold for the next four weeks, and have already lost the likes of Fabinho, and Alisson through injury at points this season.

And, whilst the Brazilian midfielder is expected to make his return following the international break, the Gomez news will still leave Jurgen Klopp short of viable defensive options.

Liverpool Injuries Mounting More than Ever

To lose your best defender for the season is one thing, but to then lose the next best thing in Fabinho for a period of time is another. To then lose the next best thing through injury after that, however, is extremely unlucky.

Fabinho, before his injury, came in and replaced van Dijk’s presence with fair ease. Joe Gomez, too, then stepped up in both players’ absence to become the Liverpool leader at the back. But the injuries have only continued to plague those who dare take to the Reds’ back four.

The extent of the injury is yet to be confirmed, but, according to Sky Sports, it is a ‘potentially serious’ one which could see the Englishman ruled out for longer than Liverpool can cope with the chance to seal deals for replacements still a couple of months away.

If the injury is a serious one as reported, Liverpool may be left struggling more than ever defensively and could, therefore, fail to retain their English crown just one season after reclaiming it.
