Defender Ethan Pinnock has committed his long-term future to Championship side Brentford by signing a new five-year contract.
Brentford Defender Ethan Pinnock Commits Future to Bees With Five-Year Contract
Long-Term Future
Pinnock, 27, joined the club just over a year ago from Barnsley. Signing from the Tykes, the versatile defender swapped Yorkshire for West London in July 2019 for a move worth around £3 million.
The former Forest Green Rovers and Dulwich Hamlet defender can play as a central defender or as a left-back.
Pinnock’s initial contract was set to expire in June 2022, but the Bees have been proactive in tying down the defender to a new contract.
The 27-year-old has scored three goals in 53 appearances for the Bees since his move just over 12 months ago.
Discussing the decision to tie the defender down, head coach Thomas Frank said: “I think Ethan has done great since he joined us in the summer of 2019.
“Once he settled into the team, he has never looked back and is just getting better and better.
“He is dominant in his one on one duels in the air and on the ground and his aerial threat in both boxes is massive.
“He continues to develop when it comes to how we play, our structure in the back four and being a leader on the pitch.
“You can always trust him and he always gives you at least an eight out of ten performance. I think his new deal is a huge positive for us.”
Verdict
It seems a rather sensible decision from the Bees to tie down Ethan Pinnock.
The defender clearly has quality in abundance otherwise, he would not have been able to make the step-up from the Ryman League with Dulwich Hamlet to the Championship in a matter of years.
In just his second season with Barnsley, he was part of the promotion-winning side that finished second in League One. He was also named as the Tykes’ Player of the Year and was in the PFA League One Team of the Season.
Since making his move to Brentford, Pinnock has continued to look forward. His impressive performances – including 15 clean sheets in all competitions last season – have made him a regular fixture within Frank’s side.
