Latest England Squad Announced for Republic of Ireland, Iceland And Belgium Fixtures
Mason Greenwood Omitted
Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood has been left out of the England squad following his failure to adhere to Coronavirus quarantine regulations in Iceland in October. Greenwood is considered a player for the future but will need to make sure he keeps himself in check to become an England regular. Gareth Southgate told Talk Sport his thoughts on leaving out the Manchester United forward:
”I have had a good chat with Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] about his development and I feel it is better for him to stay at the club at the moment, to develop over the next few months.”
Harry Maguire and Reece James Keep Places Despite Suspensions
Both Harry Maguire and Reece James saw red cards in the defeat to Denmark but have still retained their places in the squad. Both players will serve one-match bans before being able to play. Conor Coady, Eric Dier, Micheal Keane and Trent Alexander-Arnold all retain their place in defensive roles.
Who Else Makes England Squad
Raheem Sterling returns following a hamstring injury kept him out last time. Jack Grealish is impressing for both club and Country and keeps his place. Fellow Aston Villa teammate Ross Barkley has been pushing for a call-up but misses out. Luke Shaw has been looking to regain his place at left-back but erratic form for Manchester United means he is not included.
Harry Kane will once more captain the side.
England will take on Ireland in a friendly before taking on both Belgium and Iceland respectively in the Nation’s League final two group matches.
