Bradford City fans have raised £5000 in an immense showing of generosity for their non-league opponents Tonbridge Angels.
Under different circumstances, Tonbridge Angels would be welcoming an army of Bradford fans to Longmead Stadium. Unfortunately, COVID-19 regulations mean that Tonbridge Angels are missing out on a payday.
Fans have smashed the initial target of £1000.
Bradford City Fans Have Been Raising Funds for Their FA Cup Opponents Tonbridge Angels
Tonbridge Angels Reach First Round Proper of the FA Cup for First Time Since 1972
The National League South side’s tie against Bradford City is their biggest game in quite some time after reaching the first round of the FA Cup. As with most football clubs, Tonbridge will be severely impacted by a lack of income via ticket sales.
Bantams fan Jonnie Carrington took to Twitter to help out:
Ive made a page for @tonbridgeangels
and @officialbantams
fans to donate to help Tonbridge seeing as fans cant get attend imagine how much they would of got if fans had been allowed in. Hopefully #bcafc will match what we raise for them.#bcafchttps://t.co/dkCylGXBou— Jonnie 🗨 (@RocketJonnie) October 26, 2020
Tonbridge Angel’s manager Steve McKimm responded to Carrington by offering him three signed shirts and a paid-for trip to Longmead to watch the Angels play when COVID restrictions ease. Speaking to KentOnline McKimm said:
“It’s a really generous thing for someone to do for us, for someone to think of us like that and set this up off of their own back, it’s a really great thing to do and everyone at the club thinks really highly of it.”
Bradford City Need to Impress Against the Underdogs Tonbridge Angels
The season is not going to plan at all for Stuart McCall’s side and they need a morale boost. Barring the 3-0 win over Southend, the Bantams have certainly been underwhelming, especially as fans were expecting a promotion challenge. Despite these high expectations, the Bantams are struggling. As well as poor form, injuries are mounting and the squad is looking very thin.
The trip to the Longmead Stadium on Saturday is a banana skin that could prove costly if not avoided.
