The future of Dele Alli is once again shrouded in uncertainty after it was revealed that he didn’t travel with his teammates to Burnley. Jose Mourinho reportedly does not see Alli in his plans, meaning speculation of a move is heating up.
Dele Alli Not in Tottenham Squad to Play Burnley
Alli Not Wanted
According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Alli did not join the Tottenham squad for tonight’s game. Tottenham face Burnley in a bid to avenge last week’s humiliating draw with West Ham United after leading 3-0.
The 24-year-old has not started in the Premier League since Spurs’ 1-0 defeat to Everton back in September. That game saw him hooked at half-time. Since then, he featured in 21 minutes of the 6-1 win over Manchester United. His continued absence is fuelling speculation of a feud between him and Mourinho.
Ornstein reports that Mourinho does not see Alli in his Premier League plans, leaving him to feature in Europa League ties. It seems a huge fall from grace from his impressive form under Mauricio Pochettino. However, Mourinho seems to have a settled attacking side featuring Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Gareth Bale, and the bench is surely no place for a player as talented as Dele.
Heading for an exit?
This latest development surely spells the end of Dele Alli in a Tottenham Hotspur shirt. Alli is losing his place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad and, with the Euro 2021 in the summer, he needs a January exit.
It was reported in the summer window that Paris Saint-Germain were pursuing a loan deal for Alli; however, the bid was knocked back by Spurs. It is unknown whether the French giants would be interested once again in January, but it shows that his reputation is still strong.
As revealed in the Amazon documentary, All or Nothing, Sir Alex Ferguson is an admirer of Alli. Despite this, Manchester United have a deep midfield with the additions of Bruno Fernandes and Donny Van de Beek recently.
Dele Alli’s future is truly uncertain but, with his absence from the travelling squad tonight, it is likely is does not lie at Tottenham. No doubt, the rumour mill will be rampant between now and January, when he could leave the club.
