Nottingham Forest fans have reacted on Twitter as Lyle Taylor scored his first goal of the season in a 1-1 draw with Derby County.
Nottingham Forest Fans React to Draw With Derby County
‘Hughton Gambled’ and ‘Lacklustre Performance’
Forest had to come from 1-0 behind in order to take a point against Derby County at the City Ground.
Martyn Waghorn‘s excellent freekick just past the half-hour mark opened the scoring before Taylor reacted quickest to prod home Anthony Knockaert‘s corner.
The Fulham loanee produced an inspiring performance, with Forest fans already keen to see Knockaert tied down permanently.
Kamil Jozwiak had the ball in Forest’s net towards the end of the second half, but the Derby forward was denied a winger as Waghorn interfered with play from an offside position.
Speaking after the 1-1 draw, Chris Hughton said his side were fortunate to take a point after a slow first half showing.
He told NottinghamshireLive: “It’s the second game this week we have started poorly. We did that against Rotherham and it was the same again tonight.
“We had to do better in the second half.
“It’s been a tough week. We’ve got a lot of players who have played all of the game.
“In the end, did we deserve more? Probably not on the first half performance, but we finished the game very strongly.”
One major talking point was Hughton’s choice of tactics for the fixture.
The former Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion boss opted for a standard 4-4-2 formation, with Taylor and Lewis Grabban working together up-front.
But the Reds lacked a creative spark and the link with attack proved disjointed.
Hughton introduced loanee Knockaert at half-time, taking off Grabban, and reverted to a 4-2-3-1 formation, and Forest fans are keen for that set-up to remain.
Hughton gambled on the 4-4-2 system, it didn’t work. (That’s fine he’s trying to find his best team) Fig and the the 2 full backs aren’t great, and we need to find a better balance in midfield. We will improve during the season

Lacklustre performance, slow to move the ball. Looked out of position at the back at times. Lolley looked tired tonight. Good to see Taylor net his first.

Leaves Hughton with more questions than answers. Until he knows his strongest team, I expect similar, low scoring results

A bit disappointed with Forest, a fair result but they are capable of much better than that. They look really nervous to me

About the right result.
3 unbeaten
2 up top didn’t work.
Yates played well

Lyle Taylor is an unreal player, with or without grabban he NEEDS to start #NFFC

Fair result in the end. 442 doesn’t work in the modern game, completely dominated in midfield. Much better second half. Yates has improved but he’s the weak link purely down to the fact he never passes forward. I really don’t know what the best two in midfield is! #nffc

Got away with one tonight. Not our best #nffc
