Fantasy Premier League Gameweek Six Preview

Fantasy Premier League gameweek six is almost upon us with the Friday night clash between Aston Villa and Leeds United kicking things off. Let’s find out how to tackle this gameweek.

Fantasy Premier League Gameweek Six Picks

Quick Tips

The deadline is on Friday this week so one has to stay alert and not miss out. The return of European competitions will complicate matters as team news may not be available for all the sides. Squad rotation is likely for the teams involved in Europe. In a situation like this, having a strong bench helps.

Goalkeepers

Emiliano Martínez continued his solid start as an Aston Villa player with yet another clean sheet last week. In a season where clean sheets have become rare, the Argentine goalkeeper has now had three shutouts out of four. Leeds are not easy opponents but Villa are flying high so they should be confident.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have a great chance of a clean sheet this week. They are at home to Newcastle United, so that makes Rui Patrício a decent option.

Vicente Guaita, Mathew Ryan, Bernd Leno and Adrián also have clean sheet possibilities this week.

Defenders

With back to back home games coming up, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson will be expected to rack up big hauls by their FPL owners. Things have not gone for Alexander-Arnold so far but he is still involved a lot in Liverpool‘s attacking play. Robertson has upstaged him so far. However, the absence of Virgil van Dijk will surely hamper their points tally this season.

Romain Saïss is playing as a wing-back these days which makes him a really attractive option. Fernando Marçal is fit now, although the performances of Max Kilman might keep him out of the side. Nélson Semedo is also a decent option.

One of the most impressive right-backs in the league, Tariq Lamptey has a juicy home fixture this week against West Bromwich Albion. This is the type of match where Lamptey could shine. An assist or more is possible.

Aston Villa defenders should be considered this week. Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa have scored the most from them although the fullbacks are also decent options. Aston Villa have the best defensive record in the league right now.

The most defensive side in the league, Crystal Palace, will face Fulham in a London derby on Saturday. This match could provide the Palace defenders with a nice clean sheet opportunity. As always, Aleksandar Mitrović is a threat but he now has Ademola Lookman and Ruben Loftus-Cheek with him to threaten the Eagles.

Midfielders

Mohamed Salah‘s goalscoring record at Anfield is simply incredible. He has scored 18 goals at home out of his last 25 in the Premier League. This season, Salah has already scored six goals in five matches. With Sheffield United and West Ham United coming up, the Egyptian king seems to be a great option for the armband for the next couple of weeks. Sadio Mané is often ignored but his record is also quite good with four goals so far. Promisingly, Jürgen Klopp used them only for an hour each on Wednesday night to keep them fresh for the weekend.

Son Heung-Min is in spectacular form this season with seven goals already, six of which have come away from home. This week Tottenham Hotspur are at Turf Moor which has not been a happy hunting ground for them with just one win out of the last three. Spurs have won both away games this season but Burnley should provide a different challenge for them.

Jack Grealish and Ross Barkley are good options from Aston Villa. They have back to back home games coming up. Grealish is playing a much more advanced role this season. He is more involved in the attacking third than ever before. Barkley on the other hand has scored two goals in the last two matches. It might be too much to have them both but one should be in your side.

Wilfried Zaha has scored four goals so far this season. Crystal Palace’s style of play is not conducive for him yet he keeps on returning FPL points, albeit mostly from the penalty spot. He might have a better game in that respect against Fulham.

Bruno Fernandes is a player that can do well in any match. As the designated penalty-taker, he can return good scores against any opposition. It might be a tough match for Manchester United but as a long-term pick, one cannot question the Portuguese.

Manchester City travel to West Ham United this week. Raheem Sterling loves this fixture as he scored a hat-trick at the London Stadium last season. The Hammers have battled hard in recent games so it may not be plain sailing for Pep Guardiola‘s men.

Strikers

Harry Kane is in sublime form this season. He has five goals and seven assists so far and looks like a must-have for FPL managers.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin continued his great start to the season with another goal against Liverpool last week. He is expected to continue his good form.

Neal Maupay has a great home fixture this week against West Brom. He was unlucky last week so will be hoping for better fortunes this time around.

Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa is a decent option this week too. His price is really attractive and he has two home games on the trot.

Raúl Jiménez scored the winner against Leeds United last week. He has been a consistent scorer for quite a while now and has a good-looking home fixture this week against Newcastle United.

Timo Werner exploited Southampton‘s high defensive line mercilessly in the first half last Saturday. Ole Gunnar Solskjær used three at the back against Paris Saint-Germain quite successfully on Tuesday night. If Manchester United go with the same tactics again, it might be tough for Chelsea to break them down.

Sergio Agüero is back. He is one of the best strikers in the Premier League but, the question remains, how many minutes can he get on his third match in a week after returning from injury?
