Rose had been close to a move to Serie A side Genoa during the international transfer window. However, that move fell through – despite boss Jose Mourinho encouraging Rose to leave the club.
It has left Rose in football purgatory – neither coming nor going. There have been rumours of interest in his services from Championship sides, namely Middlesbrough.
That, too, has failed to materialise – meaning Rose faces another ten weeks at least without any first team football.
The left-back spent the second half of last season on loan at Newcastle United. He last played for his parent club in January.

Rose failed to secure a first-team spot when Jose Mourinho took over from predecessor Mauricio Pochettino. The England international had been a mainstay in Tottenham’s team during the Argentine’s tenure.
He was widely regarded as one of the best left-backs in the league during the peak of Pochettino’s time at the club.
Since then, however, he has found himself behind Ben Davies in Mourinho’s plans. A heated argument during the club’s All or Nothing Amazon documentary laid bare how fractured the relationship had become between player and coach.
The arrival of Sergio Reguilon for £27 million from Real Madrid was the final nail in the coffin for Rose’s Tottenham career.
An acrimonious departure from the club where he’s spent 14 years of his career would be a sad ending to Rose’s time at Spurs.
He burst onto the scene with a stunning debut strike against North London rivals Arsenal in 2010.
He went on to form part of arguably Spurs’ best team of the modern era – helping Tottenham to their highest Premier League finish of second in the 2016/17 season.
What Next for Danny Rose?
Well, there are three potential options on the table.
Rose could wait until January to make a move from the club – either on a temporary or permanent basis. The fee would be minimal, given he would have six months remaining on his contract by then.
Alternatively, he could wait until next summer, when he would be a free agent. However, this would mean going almost a year without playing first-team football.
Finally, as has been reported by Alasdair Gold, both he and Tottenham could agree to mutually end his contract at the club in the coming days. This would most likely happen if, as expected, he doesn’t move to another English club by the end of today’s domestic transfer window deadline.
Danny Rose remains a good enough player for the top level – albeit not at the level he was two seasons ago.
Should a Championship club come in for him, they would be getting a proven England international with bags of experience.
