The New Deal
After joining in August of 2019 for £16.5 million from Nice, the player was tied down to a long term contract of six years. However, his red-hot start to his Premier League career guarantees him a new deal that reflects his current form and potential to improve. Saint-Maximin’s performance against Bournemouth earlier in the year highlight his creativity. Newcastle beat Bournemouth 4-1 with Saint-Maximin creating three of the goals.
Newcastle manager Steve Bruce knows just how popular the young Frenchman is and will be delighted with the deal. In the post-match press conference at Burnley, Bruce highlighted the growing influence that Saint-Maximin is cultivating in his side: “If we can keep Allan fit he will get people off their seats, he can do things that other people can’t,” said Bruce. “He is explosive. He is a goalscorer and a threat.”
Other Premier League Clubs Were After Saint-Maximin
The new deal is also a reaction to the growing reports of transfer interest from other Premier League clubs. These rumours were linking the forward to Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers. This puts Newcastle in a much stronger position in terms of defending one of their biggest assets.
With Saint-Maximin now tied down with a better deal, Newcastle fans can relax and hope that Bruce’s Magpies continue their fine start.
