Jack Wilshere Departs West Ham United
Early Exit
Wilshere joined West Ham in 2019 hoping to re-ignite his Premier League career. It was a free transfer after he had a good spell on loan with Bournemouth. With only one year left on the current deal and wages of £100,000 a week , West Ham United release Jack Wilshere early.
Fading Star
The 28-year-old was regarded as a player who would go onto great things for England. He showed flashes of brilliance for Arsenal, but injuries mean he never fulfilled his potential. Hamstring and groin injuries have been problematic and there have ben question over his attitude to recovering from them. With no club to play for on transfer deadline day, Wilshere now faces a huge fight to try and save the last years of his career.
Lack of Opportunity at West Ham United
Jack Wilshere has released a statement and has made his displeasure clear.
“Unfortunately, despite all of my best efforts and intentions, it has not worked out as I’d expected,” he said.
“I have been fully fit for a large period of time at the club, including over the course of the last eight months – training hard everyday – but unfortunately I have not been given the opportunity to play.” The Independent
In his two years at West Ham United, Wilshere played just 19 times in all competitions.
What Next for Jack Wilshere?
With the Premier League deadline finishing at 11pm today, Wilshere is unlikely to find a club in the top division. Any club that comes in for him will be reluctant to pay his high wages and a long-term contract is practically impossible due to his injury record. The best he can hope for may be a short-term deal in the Championship but who will take that risk is yet to be seen.
