Ryan Sessegnon Joins Hoffenheim on Loan From Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur youngster Ryan Sessegnon has joined Bundesliga side Hoffenheim on a season-long loan. Tottenham received plenty of interest in the 20-year-old but rejected other advances as they all wanted to purchase Sessegnon outright. Hoffenheim, though, were happy to take the England youth international on loan with no option to buy at the end of the season.

A Chance to Get Going Again

Sessegnon has struggled to nail down a regular place at Spurs since joining from Fulham last summer. The arrival of Steven Bergwijn in January limited the youngster’s chances of playing further forward, while the addition of Sergio Reguillon in this window pushed him further down the pecking order in his usual position of left-back.

He made just 12 appearances for Spurs last season – six in the Premier League, three in the FA Cup and three in the Champions League. His only goal for the club came in the 3-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League group stages.

It will be a good test for Sessegnon to continue his development. A new league could do the youngster good, and he will still get the chance to compete in the Europa League too – the German side will play Gent, Red Star Belgrade and Slovan Liberec in their group.

In a short statement on their website, Spurs simply said: “Ryan Sessegnon has joined Bundesliga side Hoffenheim on loan for the remainder of the 2020/21 season.

“The 20-year-old joined us from Fulham in August, 2019 and has made 12 appearances in our colours to date.”

Sessegnon could make his debut when Hoffenheim host Borussia Dortmund on October 17.
