Premier League new boys Fulham have completed the loan signing of Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Blues boss Frank Lampard was eager for the 24-year-old midfielder to leave on loan in order to get regular game time. Fulham manager Scott Parker has been looking to add to his squad which has struggled since being promoted from the Championship last season.
Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek Moves to Fulham on Loan
A Chance to Play
Chelsea and Ruben Loftus-Cheek want more game time for the England international. This move could benefit all three parties involved. Fulham are desperate for reinforcements and Loftus-Cheek wants and needs game time.
Loftus-Cheek has played just 288 minutes of football since he suffered an Achilles injury sustained in May 2019 which followed a lengthy recovery time.
The arrivals of Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech have pushed the England midfielder down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge and he and Chelsea need him to play.
Frank Lampard Keen for Ruben Loftus-Cheek to get Game Time
Speaking last week ahead of the transfer deadline, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard admitted that midfielder Loftus-Cheek needed game time and was open to the 24-year-old leaving on loan. Speaking to the Chelsea website, Lampard said: “I’m very open with Ruben and we’ve had a couple of conversations in the last week,” said the boss.
“He’s fit as a fiddle so he can play week-in, week-out and he needs to play coming off the back of a lot of work now. He would have been playing games earlier if it wasn’t for lockdown.
“There’s a possibility that he may go out to play games because I think that will be great for him. We hold him in very high regard here, I certainly do and that could be a good option for him. If that’s not the right option he’ll be competitive in this squad as well because of the qualities he has.
“I’m relaxed about it but I want to find the best path for Ruben and the best path for us so at the minute we’ll see with the week we’ve got ahead of us.”
