The 30-year-old Sweden international has put pen to paper on the deal and arrives at table-topping Everton for the season.
Everton Sign Robin Olsen From AS Roma
Season-Long Loan For Roma Goalkeeper
30-year-old Olsen joins the Toffees on a season-long loan from the Serie A side. Capped 38 times by Sweden, the goalkeeper will be a welcome addition for manager Carlo Ancelotti.
The goalkeeper made his name at Malmo where he won the Allsvenskan twice and Svenska Supercupen once during his time in Norway. A move to Copenhagen resulted in further accolades with the shot-stopper completing back to back doubles of the Danish Superliga and Danish Cup.
He joined Roma shortly after the departure of Alisson to Liverpool but has since fallen out of favour, which led to a loan move to Cagliari.
International Superstar
Olsen hasn’t just impressed at club level. Capped 38 times by Sweden, the goalkeeper was part of the Blågult side that reached the World Cup quarter-finals for the first time since 1994.
Ironically, it ended in defeat against England, with Everton number one Jordan Pickford in goal for the Three Lions for that 2-0 victory.
Competition For Jordan Pickford?
England and Everton goalkeeper Pickford has come under scrutiny in recent weeks and months following a number of critical mistakes. So, will the arrival of the experienced Swede push Pickford form his number one spot?
If anything, the arrival of Olsen should push Pickford and improve his performance as a result. The England international will now need to be on top of his game both domestically and internationally if he has any chance of keeping hold of his shirt.
Sixth Summer Signing
For Carlo Ancelotti, it has been a bright start to the new season. Not only are his side top of the Premier League table with four wins from four games, but he has made some top additions to his squad.
The Blues have brought in full-back Niels Nkounkou, midfielders Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure, playmaker James Rodriguez and England Under-21 international centre-back Ben Godfrey.
Today, Theo Walcott left on loan to rejoin boyhood club Southampton.
