Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker will miss the Aston Villa game through injury, according to James Pearce of The Athletic. The Brazilian missed several games last season due to injury and will be disappointed to miss out on even more action in a Liverpool shirt.
Like last season, however, Alisson’s reported absence will provide back up goalkeeper Adrian with the chance to take centre stage; a stage that the Spaniard has looked nervy on at times in the past.
The news will certainly worry Liverpool fans who were forced to watch on as Adrian’s mistakes led to an early Champions League at the hands of Atletico Madrid.
REPORT: Alisson Ruled Out of Aston Villa Game
Growing Concern for Liverpool
When on the pitch, Alisson is Mr reliable for Jurgen Klopp’s side, but, with the injuries tallying up, the Brazilian’s appearances have lessened to signal growing concern for Liverpool. Should the injuries continue, Jurgen Klopp may have to consider his options to ensure a successful title defence.
Perhaps a more reliable backup is needed rather than the often mistake-prone Adrian, especially if Alisson remains unavailable. Liverpool need a keeper ready to step in without affecting the quality of their football when Alisson inevitably suffers injury.
Take Manchester United, for example. Sergio Romero provides the Red Devils with the perfect backup option; some even say he is at a similar level to that of David De Gea. In the face of injury, the Argentine shot-stopper steps in without any cause for concern.
Liverpool Looking to Make it Four from Four
After impressive victories over Leeds United, Chelsea and Arsenal, Liverpool will be keen to keep their 100% record against Aston Villa. They’ll reportedly be without Alisson, but, with the likes of Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino likely to start, they should have more than enough firepower to see themselves to victory.
