German newspaper Bild’s Christian Falk is reporting that Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi could be subject to a loan move to Bayern Munich as the transfer window draws to a close.
Bayern Munich Move for Callum Hudson-Odoi on Loan
Competition for Places
Hudson-Odoi, who scored after coming off the bench for the Blues in their 3-3 comeback draw at West Bromwich Albion last weekend, faces increased competition for places at Stamford Bridge following the arrivals of forwards Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz this summer.
The 19-year-old will be looking to secure himself regular first-team football this season with England boss Gareth Southgate keeping a close eye on the forward with the delayed European Championships coming up in 2021.
Bayern are long-time admirers of Hudson-Odoi and were reportedly close to signing the Chelsea man last summer before he suffered a serious Achilles injury and ultimately renewed his contract, which now runs until 2024 in west London.
The Athletic Reporter Says Deal is Unlikely
However, The Athletic reporter Simon Johnson tweeted on Thursday to report that any loan deal for Hudson-Odoi would be unlikely, with the winger considered a key part of manager Frank Lampard’s plans as he targets at top-four finish following a summer of big spending.
Johnson tweeted: “I’ve been assured that unless there is a drastic late change in the window, Hudson-Odoi will be staying at Chelsea.”
Bayern manager Hansi Flick is keen to add to his side’s attacking repertoire and Hudson-Odoi would join Serge Gnabry, Kingsley Coman and former Manchester City star Leroy Sane as options on the flanks for the German champions.
After starting the Bundesliga in fine fashion with an 8-0 drubbing of Schalke, the Bavarians suffered a setback to retaining their title after losing 4-1 away to Hoffenheim. With clubs facing a packed fixture schedule including European competitions, Bayern will be keen to add depth to their squad in case of injuries as the season progresses.
