Former Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanović is reportedly nearing a move to newly-promoted West Bromwich Albion. According to John Percy of the Telegraph, the Serbian could complete a move in the next 48 hours, signing a one year deal.
The former Chelsea man enjoyed a brief stint in Russia with Zenit St Petersburg before leaving as a free agent. The 36-year-old now reportedly looks likely to join West Brom in their survival attempt.
He would certainly add the much-needed experience of the top flight to a West Brom side keen to impress upon their return.
Branislav Ivanović Nearing West Brom Move
The Difference Maker in West Brom’s Survival Bid?
Following promotion from the Championship, West Brom will be desperate to secure their Premier League stature once more. Slaven Bilić’s short term aim will be to survive, but, in the long term, he’ll want to oversee a transition into mid-table.
With a former Premier League winner in Branislav Ivanović reportedly set to be at the heart of the defence, too, Bilić will look at this season as the chance to cement West Brom’s place back into the top flight. The Baggies have already secured the younger talent of Grady Diangana. Now, they are seemingly searching for a more experienced candidate.
One Last Premier League Hurrah for Ivanović?
Ivanović will likely go down as both a Chelsea legend and a Premier League legend. He played a pivotal part in Chelsea’s three titles between 2010 and 2017 and their famous Champions League win in 2012.
The Serbian defender also picked up three FA Cups, two Community Shields and one League Cup along the way before leaving Chelsea. He then went onto win the Russian Cup and two league titles in Russia with Zenit. Now without a club, however, he looks destined to grace England’s top-flight once again in one last hurrah.
