REPORT: New Chelsea Signing Kai Havertz Subject of Last-Ditch Manchester United Bid

Kai Havertz

Chelsea have had an incredible transfer window, recently confirming the massive signing of Kai Havertz, and reports say there’s more to come. However, if Manchester United had their way, the 21-year-old would be wearing red next season.

According to The Athletic, United made a last-ditch attempt to sign Havertz by sending him a presentation on how he would fit in at the club. Obviously, the German had already set his eyes on Stamford Bridge, but things could’ve been a lot different.

Kai Havertz Subject of Last-Ditch Manchester United Bid

Havertz – Fernandes: Deadly Midfield Duo

If United had succeeded in luring Havertz to Old Trafford, he would’ve been paired in the midfield with Bruno Fernandes, one of the stars of last season. Fernandes moved mid-season from Sporting Lisbon and instantly transformed the United team, who ended up sealing a top-four finish.

Havertz and Fernandes combining would have been an incredibly creative midfield, one that would contribute lots of goals as well. Paul Pogba would be at the base of the midfield, rounding off an exceptional trio.

The attacking players at United, namely Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, would have had a field day if they were being fed passes by two of the most talented midfielders in the league.

But United can only dream. Now they must focus their efforts on Jadon Sancho, another potential signing whose chances seem to be fleeting.

Another One That Got Away for United

The Red Devils have been linked with many, many high-calibre players in past seasons, and very few of them have actually been signed. Thomas Muller, Gareth Bale, a Cristiano Ronaldo return, and now Havertz – Jadon Sancho will probably end up being another.

Some blame it on United chief Ed Woodward, while others blame it on their frugal owners, the Glazer family. We do not know who is to blame in truth, but United constantly miss out on marquee signings.

Chelsea, on the other hand, are led by Russian billionaire businessman Roman Abramovich, who is not shy about spending money when need be and does what it takes to get top players.

Havertz is just one of them; Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, and Thiago Silva have also signed this transfer window. It represents a massive difference between the ownership of two clubs in England.

For now, though, Chelsea will enjoy Havertz. United, on the other hand, are left thinking about what could have been. Hopefully for them, another top German youngster can come in and make the difference.
