Ahead of the new Premier League season, Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti has laid down a statement with the signing of Napoli midfielder Allan for a £25 million fee. The Brazilian should prove to be one of the smartest acquisitions of the summer. His ball-winning ability, especially, should prove pivotal alongside the likes of André Gomes.

After finishing a disappointing 12th last season, Carlo Ancelotti will be desperate to see drastic improvement this time around. The Italian has taken charge of some of the biggest teams in the world, winning trophy after trophy.
The Everton job provides him with a whole new challenge, however, as he looks to guide what was a fairly average team, when he came in, to the heights of European qualification.
The introduction of Allan should take the Toffees one step closer to that dream, but the signing also lays down a clear statement of intent. The Brazilian’s arrival lets the rest of the league know that Everton will no longer settle for a mid-table position, and they are willing to spend to make sure of it.
Another Top Signing to Come?
Everton securing the signature of Allan was impressive, but, if reports are to be believed, the man who will follow him will through the doors of Goodison will add a whole new level to Ancelotti’s side.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Everton are also set to secure the signature of Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez. Talks are ongoing between both clubs with Everton keen to offer the Colombian a lifeline after a torrid time in Spain.
If a deal for Rodriguez is complete, he will join forces with Allan in midfield to form a deadly duo that could propel Everton towards European qualification. With Ancelotti in the technical area, too, anything is possible this season.
