While the focus has been on Kai Havertz and his potential big-money move to Chelsea this summer, Kevin Volland has been adding to Bayer Leverkusen’s transfer woes in the background.
According to Mohamed Bouhasfi of RMCsport, the German winger is close to finalising a move to Monaco for £15.5 million with bonuses included. The Leverkusen man will reportedly sign a four-year contract with a medical expected on Wednesday.
REPORT: Volland Set for Monaco Move
Volland the Man to Improve Monaco?
It’s fair to say that last season wasn’t exactly a successful one for Monaco. After sacking Leonardo Jardim before ending the season in 9th with Robert Moreno in charge, Monaco decided to employ Nico Kovač in an attempt to return closer to the top this season.
Now, with Volland seemingly on the verge of completing a move, Kovač can be hopeful of success for the rest of the season. So far, the French club have played two games in Ligue 1, drawing against Reims 2-2 before beating Metz 1-0.
They currently sit in 5th place with Nantes up next in the game Monaco will hope to field Volland for the first time.
The Chance to Form a Deadly Partnership
With Wissam Ben Yedder leading the line, Kevin Volland, should he complete a move, will have no problems when it comes to notching assists from the wing. The French forward scored 19 goals last season for Monaco, and that was without the creative spark of which Volland can offer.
Together, the two players can cause chaos in Ligue 1, forming a deadly partnership. If the reports are true of a medical on Wednesday, too, we can expect to see the German winger link up with his teammates very soon. With the Ligue 1 season already underway, however, Volland will be thrown straight into the deep end.
