AC Milan have extended the contract of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, according to Fabrizio Romano. The new contract extension will now keep the Swedish striker in Milan until June 2021.
Another Year of Zlatan Ibrahimovic
Zlatan Stays
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is extending his stay in Serie A. The Swedish striker has been a revelation at Milan since his arrival from LA Galaxy at the start of this year.
The arrival of the striker rejuvenated an AC Milan team looking for inspiration. The 38-year scored 11 goals in 20 appearances across all competitions. Ibrahimovic even finished as the club’s second-highest goal scorer of the season.
One of the main reasons for the extension of Ibrahimovic’s contract has been his influence on the Milan side. The Rossoneri were struggling before the arrival of the Swedish striker. In fact, the Milan giants had lost eight of their 17 league matches and had a change in management prior to his arrival.
After the signing of Ibrahimovic, the changes in Milan were very visible. They lost just two of their remaining 21 league matches and finished the league on a 12-match unbeaten run.
The contract extension for Ibrahimovic was always on the cards for the Rossoneri following the permanent appointment of Stefano Pioli.
A Well-Deserved Extension After a Record-Breaking Season
It has been a record-breaking season for the evergreen Ibrahimovic. The 38-year old rewrote numerous records during his second coming at the San Siro. He became the oldest goalscorer in the Milan derby in February, breaking the record set by Niels Liedholm in 1961.
Ibrahimovic also became the first player to score 50 goals for both Milan clubs in July after the restart. The striker became the oldest player to score ten goals in a season after scoring against Cagliari on the final day of the league.
A Busy Couple of Weeks for AC Milan in the Transfer Market?
AC Milan are expected to busy in the transfer market for the next few weeks. They are reportedly looking to sign Chelsea midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko on a permanent deal. The Rossoneri are also believed to be looking to sign Tottenham Hotspur full-back Serge Aurier.
