David Silva Set to Sign for Lazio
Numerous Possibilities
The 34-year-old Spaniard had been linked with a number of new clubs. There were rumours of a return to Spain, a trip to David Beckham’s Inter Miami, or even somewhere in Asia. But, despite all the rumours, Silva’s journey will head to Italy.
Serie A has always been an excellent place for older superstars. The league’s history of a slower, more tactical, style of play may not be as it once was, but older players like Fabio Quagliarella, Goran Pandev, Edin Dzeko and Cristiano Ronaldo are still able to thrive. Silva will be an excellent addition to that list.
Silva still has plenty left to offer. The Spaniard is coming off another ten-assist league campaign with Manchester City. He started 31 games, played over 2,500 minutes and brought 17 goal contributions in all competitions this season.
Joining a Capable Team
Lazio are a very good side. Led by a good manager in Simone Inzaghi, they put up strong numbers in the league before the break. Two points behind Juventus when Serie A restarted, they faded a little but not without some solid play. Ciro Immobile brought home the European Golden Shoe with 36 league goals, not to mention nine assists as well.
Plus, Silva will join a midfield that includes prime playmakers like Luis Alberto and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. All in all, this is a perfect place to slot in a genius midfielder like the legendary David Silva.
