When Chelsea announced the signing of Timo Werner, it came as a surprise. The German International had previously fueled speculations over a linking up with Jurgen Klopp, as he was heavily touted to join Premier League winners Liverpool.
However, an Anfield move failed to materialise after the Reds decided not to match his release clause. As a result, Chelsea jumped on the opportunity and acted quickly. They triggered the German’s release clause and fast forward, Timo Werner is a Blue.

After a fairy tale ending at the Red Bull Arena which saw him become Leipzig’s all-time top scorer with his last touch for the club, Werner joined Chelsea earlier than expected, forfeiting Leipzig’s remaining Champions League fixtures.
After a short break, Werner finally landed in Stamford Bridge last week. He watched his new teammates book their Champions League spot with a 2-0 victory over Wolves.
Speaking in an interview on the Chelsea official website, the 24-year-old stated how Lampard played a major role in his decision to sign for the Blues and his desire to lead the club’s new Era.
He said: “It is like a little dream for me but I want to become, not the same player like them, but I want to be part of a new era here so I will play to try to give my best.
“He (Lampard) was the main point,” he added. “We talked a lot about things like system, like how he wants to play and sees me playing, and how the system fits to me.
“He is a really nice guy who not only told me what he wants from me as a player because he wants to help me as a guy. He knows me now a little bit better and it fits very good between us and now I am happy to be here.” per Sky.

Werner put pen to paper on a 170,000 per week five-year contract following his £47.5 million switch to Stamford Bridge.
The pacy hitman had been on fire the entire season for Leipzig, registering 34 goals and 12 assists in all competition.
Following the acquisition of Ajax’s Hakim Ziyech in February, Werner becomes Chelsea’s second summer signing as Lampard seeks fresh talents to bolster his squad for the coming season.
