Rangers forward Alfredo Morelos is looking set to leave Ibrox after French side Lille confirmed their interest in the player. The Colombian, who scored 29 goals in all competitions last season, has reportedly already agreed on personal terms with Lille. In this latest development, the French side openly admits they are working on striking a deal with Rangers.
Rangers Star Alfredo Morelos Closer to Joining Lille
Rangers Fan Favourite
Alfredo Morelos joined Rangers in the summer of 2017 from Finnish side HJK Helsinki. He cost the Scottish giants just £1 million three years ago and they look set to make a massive profit.
The then 21-year old hit the ground running, hitting 14 goals in 31 appearances in his debut campaign. An even better campaign followed as Morelos scored 17 in 27 games as Rangers pushed Celtic for the Scottish title.
Goalscorers are idolised by fans and Morelos is no different. The Ibrox faithful, as well as boss Steven Gerrard, would love to keep him at the club for one more season. They want nothing more than to stop Celtic’s ‘ten in a row’ escapades.
A Maverick
Morelos doesn’t just have a habit of scoring goals. He also has a talent for picking up cards. He has picked up an incredible 36 bookings at Rangers, as well as four double bookings and three straight reds.
This unattractive trait earnt criticism from manager Steven Gerrard, courtesy of Rangers FC, who said Morelos needs to “learns and improve that side of his game because if he does he will be regarded as a top player.”
Whilst his goalscoring record is very impressive, his discipline issues may hinder him from reaching the top level. Despite this, Lille are ready to make a swoop for the controversial Colombian.
Leaving Rangers
As aforementioned, the French side Lille are interested in Morelos. Lille finished 4th in Ligue 1 before its curtailment, meaning they will be in Europe next season. This means Morelos retains his opportunity to shine on the European scene.
Speaking to French Radio station RMC Sport, Lille President Gerard Lopez admitted interest in Morelos.
“It is not rare that we have agreements with two or even three players for one position and then we look at which player combines better with another, etc,” Lopez announced.
“Morelos, it’s true that he’s a player that interests us. It’s also true that he is interested in LOSC. But we are in full discussion, nothing is done.”
