From Chris Wilder and Sheffield United’s unexpected rise, to Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool’s incredible dominance, many teams have reached new heights this season, making the Premier League Manager of the Season award a tough choice. There will certainly be many candidates, ready to provide credentials as to why they deserve the coveted prize. However, there is only a list of four standouts who stand a chance of taking it home.
Potential Candidates for Premier League Manager of the Season
Jurgen Klopp
Jurgen Klopp’s nomination will come as no surprise when announced. The German has led Liverpool to a first league title in 30 years in truly outstanding fashion. After picking up last year’s UEFA Manager of the Year award, he will be keen to add to a growing individual collection.
After a five year wait for an award, Jurgen Klopp looks more than likely to add to his individual trophy collection.
Chris Wilder
If the job that Jurgen Klopp has done at Liverpool seems impressive, a look at what Chris Wilder has achieved at Sheffield United will seem impossible. The boyhood Sheffield United fan has taken the Blades all the way from League One to the top eight of the Premier League in the space of four years.
The job he has done is the stuff of miracles. Not one pundit or rival fan had backed the Blades to even survive in their first season back in the top flight; some went as far as to predict a bottom place finish for them. Instead, to completely shock the world, United have challenged for European football and could end the season above Arsenal.
Nuno Espirito Santo
Much like Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United side, not many expected Wolverhampton Wanderers to enter the Premier League and impress the way they have. The Portuguese’s side have endured yet another defining season, qualifying for next season’s Europa League alongside reaching the last 16 of this season’s competition. Espirito Santo has transformed Wolves into European challengers and potential consistent top six finishers in just his second season in the top flight.
After breaking up the classic top six this season alongside Leicester City, too, Nuno Espirito Santo stands every chance of winning the Manager of the Season award.
Brendan Rodgers
With Leicester City’s top-four hopes seemingly falling apart when it matters most, people will be quick to discredit the job that Brendan Rodgers has done this season.
Leicester finished ninth last season before selling what was believed to be their best centre-back at the time with the departure of Harry Maguire. Despite this, Brendan Rodgers and his Leicester side have mounted a top-four charge for most of the season, and have at least guaranteed a Europa League place ahead of next season.
When Rodgers first arrived, Leicester were in disarray. Fast forward a year and a half, however, and the Foxes are a top-six side and top four challengers. It has been some turnaround and one that Brendan Rodgers deserves a Manager of The Season nomination for.
When announced, the Manager of the Season award will cause plenty of controversy with the possibility of either Chris Wilder and Jurgen Klopp, the favourites, missing out.
