After failing to put pen to paper on a new deal, Yasser Larouci is set to leave Liverpool this summer as reported by James Pearce of The Athletic. The news comes as a shock after the 19-year-old leaped ahead of Adam Lewis in the pecking order.
Larouci, however, has reportedly stated his desire for first-team football and sees his future elsewhere.
Yasser Larouci Set to Leave Liverpool This Summer
Leeds and Brentford Both Keen on Larouci
With Larouci going into the last year of his contract, Leeds United and Brentford have become the early frontrunners for the young academy graduate’s signature.
The deal would certainly make sense for Leeds, in particular, with Stuart Dallas approaching 30.
The chance to work under Marcelo Bielsa would be an attracting offer for Larouci too.
A move away would be exactly what the young left-back is looking for. A move to Leeds fulfils Larouci’s wish to play Premier League football as it stands, and provides him with the platform to improve by using the given playtime.
The academy graduate certainly has a lot to think about this summer with finding regular football a priority.
A Blow for Liverpool
As for Liverpool, with Adam Lewis set to go out on loan next season alongside Larouci’s reported departure, they will only have two first-team left-backs at their disposal next season with one of them being an ageing James Milner.
A new left-back must be a priority this summer. It will remove Liverpool’s reliance on a central midfielder to play that position.
Larouci’s reported will to leave is certainly an unexpected one and one Liverpool must act quickly to replace. The likes of Leeds and Brentford will be keen, however, to secure the 19-year old’s signature this summer.
