Wigan Athletic teenager Alfie Devine has held talks with Tottenham Hotspur over a possible move to North London.
REPORT: Tottenham Hotspur Hold Talks Over Wigan Athletic Teenager Alfie Devine
15-Year-Old Linked to Spurs
Spurs have reportedly held talks with Championship side Wigan Athletic.
The Latics face financial difficulty having been placed into administration.
It means Wigan Athletic may be forced to sell some of their most highly-rated players.
15-year-old Devine joined the Latics after being released by Liverpool; he starred for them in their FA Youth Cup run, where they beat Spurs 2-0.
He has progressed through the Lancashire side’s youth ranks in quick succession, and he has been capped by England at Under-16 level.
Spurs have already expressed an interest in Joe Gelhardt and Jensen Weir – although Weir is keen on a move to Brighton & Hove Albion.
But Jose Mourinho’s side have held talks over a deal for Devine, according to the Daily Mail.
They claim that Spurs are in talks over a £500,000 deal, a fee that could boost the Latics’ coffers.
Would it Work For Devine
To be playing for the Under-23s aged 15 means Devine deserves huge amounts of credit.
It is no easy feat to be playing among others four or five years older than him, so he must be an incredibly talented individual.
And so it is no surprise that Spurs will be sniffing around. The London side have an average age of 26.2 within their squad, and Devine would be a useful option for the future.
Often we hear of players moving from EFL clubs to the Premier League. Sometimes they succeed, sometimes they fail and never really get a look in.
It is important that whatever option Devine takes – whether that be to join Spurs, join someone else, or remain at the DW Stadium – that he has progression and development at the forefront of his interests.
