With injury concerns taking over Tottenham Hotspur’s campaign at times this season, Jose Mourinho will be hoping to bring in reinforcements this summer to mount a top-four challenge next season. The midfield, and, in particular, the defensive midfield position, needs looking at with Eric Dier prefered in a centre-back Role under Mourinho. And that’s where Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg comes in. According to Dan Kilpatrick of the Evening Standard, the Southampton midfielder wants to join Spurs this summer after failing to agree on a contract extension.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg Keen On Tottenham Hotspur Move
A Swap Deal On the Cards?
With Southampton in need of a right-back and Spurs in need of a defensive midfielder, a swap deal could be on the cards. According to the Kilpatrick’s report, Kyle Walker-Peters, who is currently on loan at Southampton from Spurs, could be used in a swap deal with Hojbjerg this summer. By completing a swap deal using Walker-Peters, Spurs feel as though the original price of £35 million will also drop, creating a suitable deal for both parties.
The deal certainly makes sense, too, with Jose Mourinho getting his desired midfielder and Ralph Hassenhuttl putting an end to Southampton’s right-back problems.
A Deal That Serge Aurier Could Make or Break
With Serge Aurier reportedly keen to once again push for a move out of North London once more, Jose Mourinho may be forced to keep ahold of Walker-Peters due to the lack of right-backs at the club. Aurier’s exit would put an end to any deal including Walker-Peters coming to fruition.
If the deal does happen, however, one can only praise Spurs for what would be a good piece of business, swapping an undeeded player for one who is definitely needed. The deal would make sense financially, too, with the swap deal lowering the initial price.
