Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz has given Chelsea a demand if he is to make the switch to Stamford Bridge. Havertz, who told Bayer Leverkusen he wants to leave, is linked with a host of top clubs. The links to Chelsea appear to be the strongest so far, with Frank Lampard looking to rebuild his squad. Bild’s Christian Falk reports that Havertz has an important requisite for his next move.
Kai Havertz Lays Out Chelsea Demand
Leaving Leverkusen
Havertz had an incredible season for Leverkusen last season. The 21-year-old played in 30 Bundesliga games, scoring 12 and assisting six more.
He plays in a wide range of positions, including the eight, ten and false nine positions. He can also operate on either wing. This versatility is a great benefit for any buying club by adding squad depth with just one signing.
After his outstanding season, Havertz reportedly wants a new challenge. Bayer Leverkusen’s failure to challenge for the league title, or even qualify for the Champions League, influenced Havertz to consider a move.
Havertz is widely regarded as one of the top young prospects in Europe and there is no shortage of interest. In the last year, he has been linked with Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and more.
Despite this, Chelsea are the front-runners for Havertz’s signature. Bayern can no longer afford the fee after splashing out on Leroy Sane, leaving the door open for Frank Lampard’s side.
Havertz’s Chelsea Demand
In order to make the switch to Stamford Bridge, Havertz needs one promise. Christian Falk of Bild reports that Havertz demands to be playing in the Champions League next season. Therefore, he would only make the switch to London if Chelsea qualify for the competition next season.
Update @kaihavertz29 & @ChelseaFC: Havertz wants to leave @bayer04fussball already this summer because the club has not qualified for Champions League. Because of that it would be important for @ChelseaFC to qualify for Champions League to convince him

Before lockdown, this appeared to be a comfortable task. However, after the heavy 3-0 defeat to Sheffield United, it is no longer such a guarantee.
Manchester United are breathing down Chelsea’s neck, just two points behind with a game in hand. This is surely making Frank Lampard sweat, as the club the size of Chelsea always expects to be amongst Europe’s elite.
The latest development in the Kai Havertz saga places an even greater emphasis on Monday’s announcement from UEFA. They will reveal whether Manchester City are banned from the Champions League or not.
Chelsea will be watching on eagerly as their chances of landing their target could rely heavily on that outcome.
